2 Homeless Vets was founded by Bob Hildreth and Joshua Mencl as Veterans and previously homeless they both recognized the pitfalls and challenges that came from wearing the uniform. Through a long road, a whole lot of love, understanding and grace both Bob and Joshua were able to grow and develop. It is their dynamic passion for this cause and the never changing oath to never leave your fellow soldier behind that was the spark for 2 Homeless Vets and its what drives each and every decision behind what the company does - It short it is our mission to help heal our brothers and sisters who are still on the lifelong road of healing.
Bob was ashamed and greatly burdened by the fact that he didn't make it to the Q-course. The Q-course as it's called is the Qualification course for those going into Special Forces. If you dont make it you are out. The way this played out in Bob's mind was "you are not man enough", "good enough" or any number of other messages that bring shame and condemnation. We find so many Veterans that get stuck feeling like they aren't "good enough" and as a result homelessness and struggle seem right. This is Bob's driving factor for creating a non-shame based community where all are equal and All who served Are Veterans.
Josh served in the Army from 2007 to 2015, achieving the ranks of Specialist (E4) and Sergeant (E5). During his service, he completed two year-long deployments to Iraq. Upon returning home, he faced significant challenges with his mental health, which had a profound impact on his family, friendships, and career. After years of struggle and unwavering support from loved ones, he managed to overcome the majority of his mental health issues and began to thrive once again. This journey inspired him to dedicate his time and energy to 2HomelessVets, a cause close to his heart, as he experienced homelessness while readjusting to life outside of the military. Josh looks forward to meeting you and sharing his healing journey through his work supporting this mission. In the organization, he serves as the fencing specialist, providing crucial financial support for the company’s housing initiatives. In addition to his work in fencing, he dedicates significant time to training veterans in trade skills to help prepare them for successful careers. We are proud to have Josh as a partner.
